We had a robust 23 tables for this quarterly exercise with IMP Pairs scoring,
organized as 11 tables in Section A and 12 tables in Section B. Your score on
each board was IMPed against every other pair in the room that held the same
hands, but I did not score across the field. That is, there are separate recap
and ranking listings for each section. A single board-by-board listing serves
for both sections and lets you quickly see how you compared to every other pair
who played that hand. The scoring method is "average IMPs", meaning that your
score is IMPed against every other score on that board, those IMPs added up and
divided by the number of times the board was played. On swing hands, you will
see you might win or lose ten or more IMPS, while some flat hands have very
few IMPs available. If you have any questions, feel free to discuss with the
director, and let me know if you'd like to see more (or fewer) of these games.
There were no errors reported at the club, but I got one phone report from Susan
Banghart, and found her problem and two others when I did my complete rechecking:
Section A. Board 3 NS 6 v EW 11 650 not 150
Board 4 NS 7 v EW 1 140 not 1010
Board 28 NS 6 v EW 2 650 not 600
Section B. -- no problems found
These corrections changed some scores by considerable amounts, and produced one
major ranking change. Yiji Starr and Jim Rasmussen moved up to second overall
ahead of Joe DeGaetano and Natalie Bassil. Larry and Rona also nudged Jane and
Howard out of First in Flight C.
For what it is worth, I now have a theory about my weak eyes having more trouble
reading the Section A travelers than the Section B travelers. It is something
tennis players discoverd about 40 years ago. Bright yellow balls are easier to
see than white balls, so are yellow travelers. I trust that some of you are old
enough to remember white tennis balls, while younger people might think that they
were always tday-glo yellow. Some grass court tournaments continued to use white
balls for a few more years, but soon gave up that snootiness.
Congratulations to Amnon Gabay and Charlie Polay for the best score in the room,
at more than +57 IMPs. Yiji and Jim were +52, and Joe and Natalie dropped to +48
in third place after the corrections, not far ahead of Ann Baum and Steve Groag at +46.
With two sections, I award Free Plays to four pairs, within groups as follows:
1. Amnon and Charlie for First Overall at +57.73 IMPs,
2. Larry Hanerfeld and Rona Gugliemino for First in Flight C (0-500 MP) at +19.54,
barely ahead of Jane Adams and Howard Canan at +18.13,
3. John Pararas and Chuck Greenslit for First in Flight B (500-1500 MP) at +40.93.
substantially ahead of Carmela Eyal and John Goldman at +26.33, and
4. Ann Baum and Steve Groag for First among Limited A (1500-3000 MP) at + 46.63,
far ahead of Peggy Malaspina and Derrick Niederman at +18.08.
