We had 15 1/2 tables for this regular Friday shuffle-deal-and-play duplicate, which
we played as a 16-table movement with a phantom pair 16 N-S. Thus, most E-W pairs
had a 2-board sit-out. We played 12 rounds so most pairs played 24 boards, and top
on each board is 11.
We corrected two small errors due to sloppy handwriting at the club, but those
corrections were included in the Preliminary Recap published after the game. My
further complete rechecking of scores turned up no other problems, so the rankings
published earlier are correct.
Congratulations to Sandra Nyman and Marina Polestra for the best score in the room
at over 66% to win E-W by more than a board over Len Aberbach and Jeff Lehman. The
N-S race was much closer with five pairs within one board of winning. Patricia Hanna
and Saundra Gotch had been leading with one round to go, but a poor last round dropped
them to 3rd place. Anton Tsypkin and Sheila Gaby prevailed by an extremely narrow 0.06
MP (or 0.02%) over Saul Agranoff and Kathy Benjamin. I had hoped my recount would
upset this unpopular result, but alas could find no reason to change it. ;-)
With a single section, I award Free Plays to only two pairs, the section tops.
Next Friday is a Club Championship, and the following week is an EMBA Unit Game. Both
of these events offer extra masterpoints, and both will have pre-dealt hands with
printed hand records available.
Beginning October 1st, the entry fee will go up from $7.00 to $7.50.
