We had only twelve tables for this regular Tuesday evening game that had been moved
to Westwood because of the Rosh Hashana holiday. Thanks to Robert Simpson for allowing
us to use his facility. We will return to Temple Reyim next Tuesday, Oct 7th, but
be back in Westwood on the 14th and 21st. We used pre-dealt computer hands with
printed hand-records available to all players after the game.
Twelve tables is a somewhat awkward number, and I thought maybe I could play two
boards per round with no extra mess by simply putting boards 25 and 26 on a bye
stand to start. But ACBLscore does not allow such a movement, and my choices were
to play 12 round of two boards using a relay and bye-stand, or to put 36 boards
in play with eight 3-board rounds. I chose the latter alternative and distributed
the rest of the boards, but in doing so this caused each set of three to include
one number that seemed out of order. Fortunately, ACBLscore is quite willing to
help me fix the order of boards, so this worked without any further hitch. Top on
each board is 7.
We fixed one error at the club which was due to scores on the wrong lines on Board 9,
and then my rechecking found two other minor errors:
Board 19 NS 10 v EW 10 -120 not -130 lousy handwriting, same bottom
Board 30 NS 9 v EW 1 -150 not -130 my typo
These changes had almost no effect on the rankings.
Congratulations to Tony Anisowicz and Mel Foster for the best game in the room, at
over 67%, nearly two full boards ahead of Sandy Drum and Kim Gilman who had been
in the lead after 7 rounds.
With only one section, I award Free Plays only to the Section Tops -- Tony and Mel
winning E-W, while Peter Matthews and Charlie McLain had the best N-S score.
